Back To Business For Tanner Berryhill
“Developmental Driver Returns To Bandoleros” TULSA, Oklahoma (May 19, 2006) – It’s been a couple weeks since Vision Racing driver development protégé Tanner Berryhill has been behind the wheel of a racecar, but that’s all about to change. While NASCAR invades Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Berryhill will head to Texas Motor Speedway to compete in the National Bandoleros Series.
Thus far this year, Berryhill, the son of ARCA RE/MAX Series owner Adrian Berryhill has captured four out of six wins in the National Bandoleros Series. This weekend, he’s looking to dominate the field.
Rolling towards seven starts this season in the Bandoleros Series, Berryhill has racked up two poles, four wins, four top-fives and four top-ten finishes. Those are stout stats for a driver who only has been racing for a year.
“I’m looking forward to Texas this weekend,” said Berryhill. “I’ve run well there in the past and I’ve had some great success in the Bandoleros this season, I’m hoping to continue that this weekend.”
Last year, Berryhill, whose goal is to become a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver, mastered 12 victories between the Bandoleros Series at JRP Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. In 16 races, his worst finish was fourth.
While winning is on the mind for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series hopeful, searching for another championship is in the back of his mind. “We have a chance at winning the Bandoleros championship,” explained Berryhill. “It’s a long process, but as long as I concentrate, I think I have a chance of bringing home the championship.”
Early racing success has already been beneficial to Berryhill as he has begun to catch the attention of the higher hierarchies in the NASCAR world. SPEED reporter Bob Dillner sought out Berryhill to personally congratulate him following his impressive victory at TMS last month.
Backing his efforts this season consist of Majestic Properties, LLC, National Cash Lenders, LLC, Mauppins Kia of Tulsa Body Shop and Excel Sports Therapy. “The same sponsors that we had at JRP are running with us in the Bandoleros and that’s good,” continued the youngster. “My dad has worked hard doing everything he can to put me in the seat of a racecar I’m there, but I’ve still got a long way to go.”
As for the owner, Adrian Berryhill,
he is also looking forward to a productive weekend. “Obviously everyone
is looking forward to this weekend. We want to win, but if we can’t,
I want to be competitive. Tanner is doing a great job. He doesn’t
get over his head and saves the best for last, I think that’s why
he has been so successful early on.”
Tanner is part of the driver development program for Vision Racing which competes in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and NASCAR Busch Series. “While we are planning to breed new talent with Vision Racing, the focus will be putting Tanner in the seat in a few years. He will start off on the short tracks in ARCA and then he’ll work his way up just like all the drivers do. I’m excited about the future. Despite just being halfway, we are already looking ahead to 2007 and I think we have some good things in the works,” concluded the elder Berryhill.
Following Texas Motor Speedway, Berryhill will return to local competition at JRP Speedway while also continuing to compete in the National Bandoleros Series.
Vision Racing fields the No. 37 machine in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Earlier this year Damon Lusk put on a brilliant performance in the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway finishing fifth, a career best for the Oklahoma based-team. The team will return to ARCA competition next month at Michigan International Speedway.
Vision Racing is still seeking additional funding for Tanner’s program. Interested parties can contact the team at adrian@visionracingteam.com
